TROPHY WALLEYE FISHING NOTES

• Starting in mid February and running to mid April Trophy walleye fishing in the Columbia River around Boardman Irrigon, Umatilla area is as good as it is going to get anywhere in the country.

• As the water starts to warm in early spring the female walleye start to prepare for the spawn (pre-spawn) knowing that they are going to use a lot of energy during their spawn they go on the feed.

• By mid March they are staging off there spawning beds.

• These two months are truly when the biggest egg heavy walleye are going to be caught.

• By early to mid April, depending on the water temps they move in and start to spawn.

• By Late April it is all over.

• Again in mid to late October through early December the big females move up as the temp drops and start to feed to put on the winter fat and this can be a very good time to try for big fish as there is no pressure at all.

• These are pre-spawn females that should be handled with care and released.
